Mission Statement

Our mission is to offer uncompromised quality and service at a fair price. Our vision is to be one of the most respected authorities in the underwater photography field for travel, sales, service and education. Our value is taking seemingly complex components and putting them into the most versatile photo package designed for each individual customer. We are then available after the sale to help with not only equipment related question but also to help with any underwater photo related questions. We are not just a sales staff, we are first and foremost Photographic Equipment Repair Technicians, and we know your equipment inside and out. We are also passionate underwater photographers and we use what we sell.

History

Underwater Photo-Tech was founded in 1985 by Fred Dion. As a graduate of the National Camera Institute, avid diver and novice underwater photographer, Mr. Dion decided to take his camera repair knowledge and expertise and devote it entirely to underwater photo equipment.

In 1989 Underwater Photo-Tech launched the first of many innovative, high quality accessories with the introduction of the Body Cap for Nikonos® Cameras. Many of our accessories are designed to protect your equipment investments and keep repair costs to a minimum. Underwater Photo-Tech had successfully captured the market with over twenty exclusive accessories. With the advent of digital photography Underwater Photo-Tech has changed with the times. Being one of the largest Nikonos and Sea & Sea film camera repairs facilities in the US they now focus on the latest underwater DSLR housings systems, strobes and the cameras that go in them while still keeping the diehard film shooter running.

Underwater Photo-Tech technicians have been factory trained by many of the manufacturers of the equipment sold today for underwater photography. These manufactures included Subal, Sea & Sea, Nikon and Aquatica to name a few. Underwater Photo-Tech is an Authorized service center and warranty repair center for the same manufactures. This allows them to receive the latest updates to keep their customers equipment running at peak performance. The entire staff at Underwater Photo-Tech is devoted to courteous, knowledgeable and reliable customer service.

In December of 2008, Underwater Photo-Tech merged with Backscatter to become the Backscatter East location. Our showroom is now Backscatter's, while the service center remains owned and operated by Fred Dion. Fred is also an integral part of the Backscatter East operation and is often on the showroom floor answering questions and selling the latest underwater photo gear.

Just 40 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts, one mile east off Interstate 93 at exit 4, Underwater Photo-Tech is located in the Granary Shoppe’s of Derry, New Hampshire. A pleasant staff is ready to take your calls and answer any questions you may have regarding any of our services!
